The launch of The Mlungu in Africa: Art from the colonial period, 1840-1940, co-authored by Michael Stevenson and Michael Graham-Stewart, coincided with the opening of Michael Stevenson Contemporary gallery in May 2003. All the items featured in The Mlungu in Africa were on show at the opening exhibition entitled Contact Zones: Colonial & Contemporary.
