Shine Shivan

Shivan was born in 1981 in Kerala and lives between Kochi and Faridabad, India. He completed a Masters of Visual Arts at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra in 2008 after attaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Arts, Delhi.

Basant, his first solo exhibition with the gallery took place in Johannesburg in 2024. Previous solo presentations have taken place at Galerie Felix Frachon, Brussels, Belgium (2020; 2016) Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2022; 2019); and Gallery Maskara, Mumbai (2009 – 15)

Shivan has participated in group shows including The Artist List and Juxtapositions at Stevenson Cape Town (2023; 2022); Group Show at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2022), Home Body #2 at FRAC Reunion, Saint-Denis (2022); Sculpture at FRAC Reunion, Saint-Leu (2019);  Cabinet da-end 05 at Galerie DA-End (2015), Drawing Now, Paris (2014); Kaleidoscopic India Maison Guerlain at 68 Champs-Élysées, Paris (2014); How Am I? at the Kastrupgårdsamlingen Museum, Copenhagen (2012); The Secret Life of Plants at Exhibit 320, Delhi (2012); (M)other India at Galerie du Jour-Agnès B, Paris (2011); Finding India: Art for the New Century, MOCA Taipei, Taiwan (2010); Move on Asia at Gallery Loop, Seoul and Move on Asia 2010 at Tate Modern, London (both 2010).

He was awarded the Culture and Education Society National Level Award and the Ravi Jain Annual Fellowship by Dhoomimal Art Galleries (both 2005); the All India Camlin Art Foundation’s Euro Art Tour (2007-2008); the Lalit Kala Academy Scholarship (2008); the Peers residency at KHOJ Studios (2009) and was shortlisted for the SKODA Prize Twenty (2010).
